PSE Questions
What majors do you accept?
PSE is accepting students from all majors. We have members studying course work in all 5 colleges on campus! From graphic design, to accounting, to engineering, PSE aims to give members professional development and experience that is meaningful to any career path.
What types of client projects do you provide?
PSE is always looking to expand our project work. In recent years, we have done projects in marketing, advertising, finance, sales, design, blockchain, website development, and projects on a global scale. Our goal is to find any project work that interests our members. Check out our projects here!
What is the Regional and National Convention?
As the Gamma Gamma chapter of PSE and Lewis F. Gordon Top Chapter in the nation, we love attending our regional and national conventions. At both the regional and national conventions, PSE chapters participate in marketing, sales, public speaking, and professional development workshops. At the national convention, all PSE chapters come together to compete on the professional work they have completed during that year.
Do you participate in events outside of the business setting?
Of course! We host several events outside of the business setting. Whether it is weekly Skyline Chili outings, intramural games like softball and broomball, or attending our service retreat or annual corn hole fundraiser, we like to be together in suits and in sweats!
Can you rush a social fraternity/sorority and a business fraternity?
Absolutely! Students interested in gaining resources to help them professionally in addition to experiencing the community of a social fraternity or sorority can rush both types of organizations. A large number of PSE members participate in Greek life on campus and are equally involved in both organizations.
What happens if you get into more than 1 business fraternity?
If you get a bid from more than one business fraternity, you are considered a “Cross-bid.” At Miami University, the four business fraternities on campus determine a time frame for Cross-bids so they may take additional time to decide which business fraternity is right for them.
Can you interview for a business fraternity more than once?
Yes! Business fraternities recruit twice during an academic year (once in the fall and once in the spring). You can interview for a business fraternity as many times as you’d wish.
What is the difference between a business fraternity and a social fraternity?
Business fraternities are professional organizations with the purpose of preparing members for their career following college. A business fraternity aims to give students experiential learning opportunities and real world connections to help them gain insight into their career paths. Social fraternities are social organizations meant to help students build relationships with other students on campus.
Recruitment Questions
How many interviews are there in your Recruitment Process?
PSE conducts two rounds of interviews: behavioral and creative with a “meet-the-chapter” event in between. More details are included in the Fall 2024 Recruitment Schedule.
What do I wear?
For both interviews and Meet The Chapter, you should come in business professional. If you do not have business clothes with you, Miami Middletown offers the Professional Clothing Closet. Do not feel you need to buy anything! Just wear the most professional clothes you have.
How long are the interviews?
There is no time limit on how long an interview will go, but on average, our interviews last about 30 minutes. We always suggest that you arrive 10-15 minutes before your interview time-slot, as we normally run slightly faster than anticipated.
What type of questions do you ask?
Interview questions asked vary per round. During our first round interviews, we ask behavioral based questions. In second round interviews, we ask more thought-provoking and problem-solving type questions.
What do you look for in interviews?
Throughout our interview process we look for individuals who are driven, passionate, and eager to learn. During the first round interviews, we look to see who you are as a worker, teammate, and leader. In the “meet-the-chapter” event we want to see who you are as an individual. We like to learn more about your interests, hear what you’re passionate about, and get to know you in a more relaxed setting. Finally, we look to understand your problem-solving and creativity skills during second round interviews.
New Member Questions
What is Bid Day like?
Typically, Bid Day involves a series of events. If you receive a bid, a group of PSE members will deliver it to your dorm, house, etc. Once all of the bids are handed out, there will be a casual event where you can meet active members and the other new members in your class. If you do not receive a bid from PSE, you will hear from our Director of Recruitment with the next steps. You are always welcome to connect with him/her for feedback or questions.
How long does it take to find out if you get a bid or not?
You will be extended a bid from PSE on the Sunday following your second round interview. During that day, we will give you a 2 hr time period where we ask you to sit in your dorm, house, or apartment for us to deliver your bid.
What is a new member project?
The new member project is our way of showing the new members exactly what PSE is all about. Although the scope of the project is different every year, there are aspects that will be the same. You will be placed in teams of 4-5 new members and assigned a team lead, who is an older member that acts as a coach for the new member team. From there, you are challenged to conduct research and present a solution to the client. Some of the projects in the past have been with BIBIBOP Asian Grill, LionsGate, JeffHanson Art, Proctor and Gamble, the Miami Athletic Department, and more.
How big of a time commitment is the new member project?
As a school extracurricular, PSE designs the new member project to be achievable with coursework. We work around you and your teammates’ schedules to ensure you are capable of excelling in the classroom and in your project. If there is ever a time where you feel overwhelmed by the work or the process, you can always connect with your new member educator, team lead, or an older member in the chapter for help or guidance.
Do you provide mentorship opportunities for new members?
We provide a plethora of mentorship opportunities for our members. Not only will your team lead for the new member project act as a mentor, but also the professional development offers support and guidance.
How long is the new member process?
The new member process is 8 weeks, starting with bid day and ending with initiation.
Would I get to do everything an older member does?
Yes. In PSE, we believe your new member experience plays a crucial role in setting the tone for the rest of your experience in PSE. As a new member, you will not only be able to see what it’s like to be an active member, but you will be able to experience it as well.
