I AM PSE: Oxford By Night

Hi, I’m Sadie! I’m a sophomore IMS major with an Entrepreneurship minor. I’m from Richmond, Virginia, I’m on the design committee in PSE, and I’ll be taking over as the Director of Graphic Design for MAP. I’m also a fantastic plant mom, I love talking about movies, and my favorite place to be is the airport.

Aside from PSE, I’ve also been a part of MAP since second semester freshman year and have loved every minute of it. My involvement as a general member has allowed me to meet some really cool people while learning the ins and outs of planning an event on campus. MAP has taught me some skills that you can’t learn in a classroom. Skills like running a cotton candy machine, and how to order 200 stickers shaped like a dog bone. Another one of my favorite parts of MAP is designing graphics. I think it’s a really cool feeling to see something that you made hanging on a bulletin board or on yard sign while you’re walking on campus. I was actually just recently accepted into the role of Director of Graphic Design for 2020, which means that I will be in charge of the graphics for every event that MAP puts on. I’m super thrilled and looking forward to being in a position where I get to create.

I’m so thankful for all the opportunities I’ve gotten at Miami to take on creative projects and develop my skills as an artist and designer. In high school, the opportunities were much more limited, and didn’t feel as fulfilled. Thanks to my major and the organizations I’m involved in, I’m able to get learn and work on things that make me happy. As far as my remainder of time at Miami, I’m looking forward to taking advantage of the IMS study abroad programs. I’m planning on going to Cincinnati and Luxembourg in the next two years, working in intern positions and networking in those cities. I’ll be able to further build my resume so that I can leave here with a job that I’m passionate about; and I know that IMS, MAP, and PSE are setting me up for that.

A lot of people ask me about how I got involved with PSE since I’m a CCA major, and not in FSB. Well one of my close friends from freshman year (Rachel Anthony), was in a class with me first semester, and as soon as she joined PSE she told me about how great it was and that I should look into it. I was hesitant at first since I had assumed that business frats were exclusively for Farmer students, but Rachel assured me that PSE was accepting to all majors, and she told me about the design committee and how she’s getting a lot of great experience and pieces for her portfolio. I decided that it couldn’t hurt to apply, and that I wouldn’t be too upset if I didn’t get in. Then, after the first round of interviews and going to Meet the Chapter, I was sold. I really wanted to be a part of this organization, because it seemed like a fantastic way to build community, develop my skills, and learn a lot of really cool things that I wouldn’t be learning otherwise. I’m so grateful that I was accepted and that I get to be a part of PSE
